Tuscan Landscape, Oil on Canvas, Silvio Pucci (1892-1961)
Oil painting on canvas, signed lower right. Silvio Pucci (Pistoia 1892 - Florence 1961) was an Italian painter whose works, laid in broad brushstrokes with large fields of color, are mainly Tuscan landscapes and still lifes, where the rural backgrounds and peaceful atmosphere of his native region strongly emerge. After a stay in Paris in the 1920s he was deeply influenced by Cezanne, and through the 1930s and 40s he was an esteemed and awarded artist at the Venice Biennale. From 1948 he spent his summers at Montepulico in the Mugello, painting landscapes in a fresh and luminous style; a plaque now commemorates him on the facade of his home there. His work is present in several regional museums and is being re-evaluated as deserving a prominent place in the Italian twentieth century. Wear consistent with age.
