An Italian Directoire bedside cabinet in walnut, with a frieze drawer above a paneled door, raised on turned tapered feet. The clean, upright case carries the Directoire preference for line over ornament, with the figured walnut mellowed to a warm tone and the honest wear of two centuries of service visible at the edges, exactly the surface collectors mean by character.
