English 20th Century 'Kangaroo' Carved Wood Gaff Cutter Pond Yacht
Carved in wood and named 'Kangaroo,' this English pond yacht dates to the twentieth century and is rigged as a gaff cutter, retaining its two-tone original paint. The hull's surviving two-colour scheme and its name give the model individual character and documentary interest. Pond yachts were built to be sailed on ornamental ponds and lakes and are now collected as decorative maritime objects. The carved wooden hull carries the proportions of a working sailing model, with a single mast and a four-cornered mainsail in the gaff cutter configuration.
