The term "bouillotte" originates from a popular card game in France during the late 18th century, initially adorned with torches that later evolved into lamps. These lamps typically have three arms, with shades—usually made of tôle—that can be adjusted closer to the candles to diffuse a soft light. In this lamp, the green painted sheet metal shade is adjustable thanks to a small arrow-themed screw. The three arms, also adjustable, showcase a charming hunting theme with French horns supporting the candle sleeves.
