French 19th Century Empire Painted Mercury-Glass Mirror
Worked in the Empire taste, this nineteenth-century French mirror carries strong neoclassical lines and retains its original mercury glass, which shows gentle foxing and natural imperfections in keeping with its age. The painted frame has measured proportions and an aged surface with patina. The Empire influence is expressed through architectural simplicity and bold, clean form rather than applied ornament, giving the piece an upright, formal character.
