French 19th Century Leather-Lined Trunk with Brass Studs
Made in France in the nineteenth century, this rectangular trunk is covered in patinated leather and decorated with rich ornament and brass studs. Trunks of this kind were used for the storage and transport of clothing and household goods, and leather-covered examples with brass studding are valued for their decorative surfaces. The patinated leather gives the trunk a warm, aged surface, while the brass studs and ornament provide decorative detail. Suited to placement at the foot of a bed, in a hall, or in a living room, the trunk provides concealed storage while serving as a decorative object and a surface for display on its lid.
