A pair of French iron andirons, Napoléon III period, circa 1870s. Each andiron presents a circular, splaying top set on a straight vertical shaft fitted with log hooks, descending to a horizontal base with lightly scrolling feet — a form of restrained elegance characteristic of mid-to-late nineteenth-century French fireplace furnishings. Purpose-built to elevate firewood above the firebox floor, the design balances functional utility with understated decorative confidence. The iron has developed a well-weathered patina over more than a century and a half of use. A handsome and practical pair for a period fireplace or as hearth decorative objects. Offered as a pair.
