A large Swedish painted secretary from Värmland, dated 1854. The monumental two-part form features paneled doors in both the upper and lower sections flanking a central fall-front writing surface. The exterior has been refinished in soft light grey; the interior has been carefully stripped back to its original historic paint, preserving the rich layered patina of the period. The fitted interior offers a well-organized arrangement of drawers and compartments. An architecturally scaled piece that combines the functions of writing desk and storage cabinet — a form common to Swedish rural interiors of the mid-nineteenth century. 57.25"W × 22.5"D × 88.75"H; desk height 30.125"H, desk depth 35.5"D.
