A pair of Italian Empire nightstands in walnut, early 19th century, each with a frieze drawer and two lower drawers flanked by ebonized columns, raised on block feet. The dark columns against warm figured walnut give the pair the crisp architectural character of the Empire period, rendered at a scale perfectly suited to bedside use. True period pairs are far scarcer than singles, and these offer matched storage with real presence: three drawers each, sound cases, and surfaces mellowed by two centuries of use. Beyond the bedroom they work as end tables in a sitting room or as small chests in a hallway. Both are solid, with drawers running properly and wear consistent with age.
