A pair of Swedish demi-lune console tables in black paint, circa 1880, a form as versatile as any in the antique repertoire. Each half-moon table stands neatly against a wall, flanking a doorway or fireplace, or gracing an entrance hall, and the pair can be joined to form a single round center table, an arrangement that made demi-lunes the most practical of 19th century furnishings. The dark painted surfaces give the pair a crisp, graphic presence that reads beautifully against pale walls, with carved detailing at the legs adding quiet refinement. They are an easy scale for halls, landings, and bedrooms. True pairs are considerably harder to find than singles. Wear is consistent with age.
