This exceptional early 19th-century Swedish Neoclassical mirror is hand-carved in wood and retains its beautifully aged original painted surface with a soft, timeworn patina. The architectural crest is decorated with a pair of opposing winged sphinxes flanking a classical torch, an elegant motif inspired by ancient antiquity and favored in Swedish Gustavian design during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Fine egg-and-dart molding, carved foliate details, and crisp geometric borders frame the original mirror plate, while the lower section retains its original iron candle holder, allowing the piece to function as a traditional mirror sconce.
